Not wanting to be left behind in coming up with lens options in the Micro Four Thirds Camera category, Olympus introduces the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm F4.0-5.6 lens. This ultra-wide angle model has a collapsible barrel design in a compact and lightweight build that many lens enthusiasts will appreciate. Its focal range is 18-36mm and it has a 100 degree angle view on its wider end.
Micro Four Thirds Cameras: Design
“Lightweight” is the first word that comes to mind upon holding the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm F4.0-5.6 Micro Four Thirds Camera lens. The entire length of the lens is 49.5 when collapsed and weighs a mere 155g. It is half the size and weight of most lenses in the same focal range in the Micro Four Thirds Camera category. Its “almost-Lilliputian” size is thanks to the collapsible barrel. When it is collapsed it is a mere 49.5mm in length. However, when in this position you cannot use it to shoot images; you have to attach the zoom ring and crank it to 9mm. There is a spring-loaded switch which you slide on the side of its barrel to prevent the lens from retracting fully. The mount that comes with this lens is fashioned out of metal, which adds to its sturdy feel albeit lacking in weather resistance of any sort given the absence of a rubber ring around it.
